Think about your light source…

Happy Fri-yay!

Today I thought I would share with you a scene created using watercolours and a mix of Card-io & Lavinia stamps.

I first created the watercolour rainbow using Kuretake Gansai Tambi paints. I added the splashes of colour at the top and then sprayed with water and held it so the paint would run downwards. I dried this off and then and then created the scene at the bottom. Starting in the foreground and masking off any areas that would have stamped images behind them.

You will see I have coloured the scene in watercolours and then added highlights with posca paint pens to show where there would be the reflection of light from the sky. I have added some glossy accents to further show the reflections of light and used my mattehop gel pens to add the florals.

When using silhouette stamps it is key to think about your light source, whether that is a visible light source in your make like the sun or moon, or an implied light source, which is in this case.

When it comes to creating your backgrounds, please don’t be afraid to just have a play, if you are using watercolours they are so forgiving, they can be layered up, or diluted down by adding more water. There is no right or wrong, the scene is from your imagination so who can tell you it’s wrong!

So just have a go!

Xoxo
