I thought I would share with you today a couple of home decor/ upcycling pieces I created using a lampshades from a Charity Shop.
This first lamp used only two colours of permanent vinyl and svg cutting files from a Tattered Lace USB and creates (in my opinion!) a lamp that is Modern, clean and fresh.
This next one was a challenge from my sister…
My sister … ‘I got this lampshade from a Charity Shop and wondered if you could weave paper through it to make a shade for this lamp base I have’
Me…out loud… ‘Yes of course I am sure I can come up with something, leave it with me’
Me… internally… (hitting my forehead with my hand) could you have found a light shade any more dated, I know I love paper but I can‘t work miracles!
Never one to turn down a challenge when it comes to paper craft, I actually really enjoyed creating this one, and I take back my thoughts about it being a dated lamp shade it was perfect for the job.
To make this I created an out line drawing based on the pattern on the lamp base. I then created. 4 panels from black card stock to fit each of the sides of the shade. I cut the shapes out of the black to give the lead effect of stained glass, and then used 50gsm white paper to cover the back. 50gsm is translucent enough to let the light shine through but substantial enough to take the addition of colour. I used my alcohol markers to colour in each section to co ordinate with the colours of the base, and I was super pleased with the outcome.
The moral of the story is to see imagine what can be not what is, and paper can solve everything!
That’s all for today folks.
xoxo
