Today I wanted to show how even if we think we have a style as paper crafters we don't have to stick to one style. It is liberating to try new techniques and colour palettes.
Edit Image
The first for today is a darker more grungy style card based on Alice in Wonderland. This one I created using my Harmony Water reactive ink pads. I used a Tattered Lace Alice outline die to create my own stencil from card stock. I used the negative space to start with and coloured Alice black, then used the cut out and placed it over the image to create a mask. I used Crafters Companion Stick and Spray to hold it in place and then used three stencils to create the background, the clock face, a heart and the swirl.
The sentiment is cut out of gold and black using a Crafters Companion die through my gemini mini, and I have layered them to create a drop shadow. The whole image is then mat and layered onto black, gold, kraft and white. Because I used a shimmer paper to allow me to create a more muted effect, once finished I sprayed a light coating of hairspray over the top to protect the ink.
My second one is created using vibrant centura pearl card stock. I cut concentric circles with a half inch offset on my scan and cut and then cut half inch strips with my Caterpillar and then cut these strips at varying lengths. I then allowed myself free reign in where I wanted to place each of the blocks. Mixing up the curves and the angles, there is no right and wrong. The sentiment is also a Crafters Companion die that I just ran through my Gemini Mini.
These are two contrasting styles but both deliver poignant messages, all are created with some card, ink pads and a couple of dies & stencils.
